Development Career:

My web development career started in 2008, starting out as a junior PHP developer at a IT / Development company, IceBlue InfoTech. A year later, August 2009, the development team moved over to Virtuosa, a full digital agency. I continued PHP development and later started doing Python development and server management for saidWot v3, an Online Reputation Management package. March 2011, I started my own Web Development consultancy, Lessink, specializing in PHP and Python development.

Almost two years late, at the beginning of 2013, I moved operations into office space at Kono co-operative in the Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg, teaming up with like-minded creatives to enrich my skills offering.

April 2013 I graduated from UNISA with distinction, earning a BSc Computer Science with specialization in Computational Intelligence.

The Early Years

Born and raised in sunny South Africa. I grew up in Johannesburg, the city of gold, doing what people do while growing up ( I vaguely remember the torments of school and being a teenager ).

After highschool I did a Practical Graphic Design course, learning how to make signs, work with vinyl, silkscreen t-shirt, airbrushing, various art techniques and more. After the course, I busied myself with various things. I got a position as an art tutor, giving class to senior and junior pupils (quite messy!) over the weekends and doing some paints and drawings on commission. I also started giving music lessons, teaching pupils classical guitar, including reading music – an essential skill for any musician. As a day job I was the Production Manager at Computer Development Systems, swinging a soldering iron most of my days and helping with some IT support where needed.

Not seeing too much work in the art direction I wanted to take, I started studying for a degree through UNISA, a BSc. Computer Science with specialization in Computational Intelligence, and finally graduated in 2013. In an unexpected turn in my life I moved out of my parent's house and got my first developer job! And now, now I'm here.
